One of the many reasons I love living and working in Pittsburgh's North Hills is the incredible access to parks and green space. Whether you're looking for a peaceful place to take a walk, spend time with your dog, enjoy a family picnic, or get some exercise, you'll find no shortage of beautiful parks just minutes from home.
As a Realtor, I'm often asked about more than just homes. Buyers relocating to the area want to know what it's like to live here, and our parks are always high on my list of things to recommend.
Here are a few of my favorites.
North Park
At more than 3,000 acres, North Park is the crown jewel of the North Hills park system. There's truly something for everyone.
Visitors enjoy miles of walking, running, and biking trails, a beautiful lake, fishing, kayaking, tennis courts, playgrounds, a swimming pool, golf course, ice rink, and countless picnic areas. The park also hosts community events, concerts, races, and seasonal festivals throughout the year.
It's one of my favorite places to take my Golden Retriever, Frisco. Whether we're enjoying a leisurely walk or simply spending time outdoors, it's hard to beat a day at North Park.
Blueberry Hill Park
Located in Franklin Park, Blueberry Hill Park offers a wonderful mix of recreation and nature.
The park features paved walking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, pickleball and tennis courts, basketball courts, and plenty of open green space. It's also home to one of the area's best dog parks, making it a favorite destination for pet owners.
Its convenient location and well-maintained facilities make Blueberry Hill Park a popular gathering place throughout the year.
Graham Park
Marshall Township's Graham Park continues to grow as one of the North Hills' premier recreational destinations.
Known for its extensive athletic facilities, the park also offers scenic walking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, and open spaces perfect for relaxing or enjoying a quiet afternoon. Community events and youth sports bring the park to life during the spring and summer months.
For residents in Wexford and Marshall Township, it's a wonderful neighborhood amenity just minutes from home.
Knob Hill Park
Tucked away in Warrendale, Knob Hill Park is a hidden gem that combines beautiful scenery with plenty of outdoor activities.
The park features walking trails, athletic fields, a stocked fishing pond, playgrounds, and picnic shelters. It's a peaceful place to enjoy nature while still offering plenty to do for visitors of all ages.
It's especially popular with walkers and runners looking for a quieter alternative to some of the larger parks.
Hartwood Acres
Located just southeast of the North Hills, Hartwood Acres is well worth the short drive.
Known for its stunning historic mansion, beautifully landscaped grounds, and miles of wooded trails, Hartwood Acres offers a unique blend of history and outdoor recreation. During the summer, the park hosts free concerts that draw visitors from throughout the Pittsburgh region.
Whether you're hiking through the woods, photographing the gardens, or attending an evening concert, Hartwood Acres is one of Allegheny County's most picturesque destinations.
